Gibbons - Disney Animals
Gibbons at Walt Disney World Resort
You can find 2 types of gibbons frolicking in the forests of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park: white-cheeked gibbons and the much larger siamangs.
Gibbons are native to the rainforests of southern Asia. White-cheeked gibbons can be found mainly in Vietnam and Laos while siamangs come from Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
At the park, you’ll discover these playful and very vocal primates “whooping” it up in the treetops at the entrances to Kali River Rapids and Maharajah Jungle Trek.
Home Away From Home
- A Swingin’ Good Time: A network of bamboo beams, ropes, ladders, towers and live trees gives the gibbons endless opportunities to climb, swing and stay active in their specially designed forest dwelling.
- A Fruity Feast: The gibbons and siamangs are offered a tasty combination of fresh fruits, veggies and plant life, allowing them to forage for their favorite foods.
- Tracking Down Treats: Now and then, Disney animal care experts hide special treats in a hanging bucket or a burlap bag. This is a great chance to observe the gibbons’ natural curiosity and foraging skills.
Disney Conservation: Saving Gibbons
The Walt Disney Company is committed to saving wildlife and protecting the magic of nature together as a global community.
Gibbon populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, hunting and the illegal wildlife trade.
The Disney Conservation Fund* supports nonprofit organizations working with communities living in and near gibbon habitats to create alternative income options, increase overall community welfare and discourage activities that can harm gibbons and their habitat.
*The Disney Conservation Fund is supported by The Walt Disney Company and Guests of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, with 100% of Guest contributions matched by Disney and directed to nonprofit organizations. Additionally, Disney covers all costs of managing the fund. The Disney Conservation Fund is not a charitable organization, and donations are not deductible as charitable contributions for US tax purposes.
